Join us for this in-person workshop on Tuesday June 13th from 6-9 PM at NOVAC with visiting filmmaker Emilia Mello.

Poetry is the most essential way we make sense of our lives. Layli Long Soldier wrote "“Real” poems do not “really” require words." People are poems. Places are poems. Relationships are poems. We will watch examples of poetic documentary, learn about documentary history, and engage in exercises to explore how we can use poetry in our own work.

  • The workshop will cover:

  • The history of experimental and poetic documentary filmmaking

  • Diaspora poetics

  • Important examples of poetic documentary work

  • Explorations of poetic approaches to our own work
