Join us in person on Wednesday March 19th from 6-9 PM at NOVAC for "Many Hats: A workshop and discussion with Zac Manuel"

  • This workshop explores the journey of bringing a film to life—from the first spark of an idea to the final stages of production and distribution. Using examples from Zac’s directorial work over the past five years, we’ll examine how projects evolve, adapt, and take shape, sometimes in ways we never anticipate.

  • Through a mix of screenings, discussions, and behind-the-scenes insights, this workshop explores the many ways a film can begin—whether through a question, a logline, a piece of footage, or an unexpected moment—and the creative and logistical challenges of developing, funding, and producing an independent film. Zac will discuss some best (and worst) practices for navigating the industry while staying true to your artistic voice, some successes and failures, and what he’s learned from both.

  • Zac will share scenes from his feature and short documentaries, as well as more experimental work, to highlight the range of approaches and techniques in documentary filmmaking. This workshop will offer an open dialogue about creativity, adaptability, and the ever-changing landscape of documentary storytelling in an ever-changing industry.
