Please join us for our “Directing Film Scores” workshop Monday January 29th from 6-9 PM with Academy Award-nominated director and composer Benh Zeitlin!

The workshop will take on how to use music in film from the point of view of the director. We'll be workshopping examples of great scores, taking apart how the music affects the audience, shapes the scene, and ultimately tells the story. We'll also screen scenes from films I've scored with the music stripped out, test out different approaches to music and break down what choices were ultimately made by the filmmaker. We'll also get into more technical musical aspects like tempo, instrumentation, mixing, and discuss how these elements communicate with the viewer.

  • The workshop will cover:

  • Directing

  • Composing

  • Temp scoring

  • Sound mixing

  • Film language
