Please join us at NOVAC on Monday April 7th from 6-9 PM for our workshop “Cinematographers: Creating your Path and your Process” with Reyna Hope!

In this workshop, we discuss creating your unique path and process as a cinematographer. We’ll explore cultivating a deeper understanding of imagery and finding the “why” behind your visual choices. In a look inside Reyna’s personal process, she’ll share how a DP can translate that vision practically on set, with their director and crew. Reyna will also speak on finding your personal “why” behind your work and using it to navigate a sometimes challenging yet rewarding career.

  • In the workshop we will cover:

  • Discovering your visual style and motivations, learning to observe light, composition, color

  • Building your process logistically in prep, shoot and post-production. Reyna will share examples from her own work, from initial shot-list to completed project

  • A discussion on sustainability and supporting yourself mentally in an unconventional industry and lifestyle

Reyna Hope

Reyna Hope is a cinematographer and photographer from the outskirts of New Orleans, Louisiana based in Los Angeles, CA. She first started visualizing stories as a child, beginning with wanting to tell her own bedtime stories. Around the same time, she became infatuated with her mom’s VHS camera, and unknowingly started her career in pictures. Seeing life through her unique eye, that initial interest grew into a deeper appreciation of light, perspective, textures and the feelings they evoked. Her sensitivity to those qualities, combined with the desire to build connection through film, led her into the arms of cinematography. Her body of work includes feature films, commercials, documentaries and music videos.
